GUTTERS & LIGHTS Newberg, Oregon
Roof moss

This is Oregon. The moss is coming.

Moss holds water against your shingles and pries them up as it grows. The fix isn't a pressure washer — that strips granules off asphalt shingles. It's treatment that kills moss at the root, then a gentle clear once it's dead.

We don't pressure-wash asphalt shingle roofs, and we'll tell you if someone else shouldn't either.

How it works

  1. Treatment applied on a dry day — it kills the moss at the root over the following weeks.
  2. Dead moss releases its grip and comes off with rain and a gentle follow-up clear.
  3. Spring treatment on the Year-Round Plan keeps it from re-establishing.

Fair questions

Why not just pressure wash it off?

On asphalt shingles, pressure washing strips the protective granules and shortens the roof's life. Treatment first, gentle removal after — slower, but it's the version that doesn't cost you a roof.

When's the right time to treat?

Any dry stretch works. Spring is ideal — it knocks moss down before the growing season, and it's when we run treatment routes on the Year-Round Plan.
